The Modern Assyrian Research Archive (MARA) is a digital archive based at the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, University of Cambridge. It was initiated in 2008 by doctoral students and academic professionals interested in Assyrian Studies.
The aim of MARA is to locate, collect, and preserve source material and literature on the history, culture, and language of the Assyrian community from the 19th century onwards. The Assyrians are an indigenous people from the Middle East (Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Turkey). Today, large communities exist in exile, predominantly in North America, Europe, and Russia.
The source material digitized and made available by MARA comprises of digitized images of unpublished documents and manuscripts, non-copyrights publications, and audio recordings of oral sources.
This work is in progress. MARA has set its goal at compiling the world’s largest digital archive on Modern and Contemporary Assyrian culture by making use of an extensive international private and professional network.
